Sailing for adults is back at the Royal with a completely revamped program for the  season. Built to Sail Canada standards,  the Royal is  the premier place in Montreal for adults to learn to sail.

 If you wish to join the Royal to continue sailing after the course, as a course graduate you will have access to the fleet of Shark 24s for daily use and a unique engagement plan consisting of multiple sailing, racing and social activities tailored to new graduate sailors.

Sailing Essentials consists of 30 hours of instructional time, the majority of which are on the

Instructional sailing for adults is back at the Royal with a completely revamped program for the 2023 season. Built to Sail Canada standards, the Sailing Essentials course draws on multiple experienced instructors and our exclusive fleet of Shark 24s, making the Royal the premier place in Montreal for adults to learn to sail.

Sailing Essentials consists of 30 hours of instructional time, the majority of which are on the water, giving you the confidence and skills needed to skipper/crew a Shark 24 on your own, or crew for a larger keelboat.

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the Start Keelboat Sailing Standard from Sail Canada. Additional instructional elements from Basic Cruising/Crew Standards will also be included, providing you with a complete and well-balanced introductory program.

We offer three convenient sessions throughout the season for you join:

SE-1 (5 weeks) – June 5 to July 5, Monday & Wednesday from 18:00 to 21:00.
SE-2 (5 weeks) – July 10 to August 9, Monday & Wednesday from 18:00 to 21:00.
SE-3 (1 week intensive) – July 24 to July 28, Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:00.
The cost of the course is $750 and includes all required course materials.

Our WOW! Women on the Water program has been specifically designed to allow novice and budding female sailors to join small group or private sessions. The course consists of around 20 hours instructional time (depending on the session selected), the majority of which are spent on the water. Instruction is tailored to your goals, whether you want to build confidence, receive coaching in specific areas, or earn the CanSail Start Keelboat Sailing Standard.

 

We offer two convenient Women on the Water sessions throughout the season for you join:

WOW-1 (Evening & weekend session combined)

From Thursday June 29th to Sunday July 2nd

Evenings 17:30-21:00 and weekends 10:00-16:00

 

WOW-2 (Weekdays)

July 10th to July 13th

Monday to Thursday 10:00-16:00

Private Sailing Lessons

Private sailing lessons for members and non-members of all ages are back at the Royal.

 

Accredited by Sail Canada, our team of certified instructors is here to provide private sessions that cater to your experience and sailing ambitions. We also offer these sessions in groups of two or three.

 

Single or bundled sessions can be reserved based on the following costs:

 

 $200 / $250 / $300 One/Two/Three students, one session of 2.5 hours
$700 / $850 / $1,000 One/Two/Three students, four sessions of 2.5 hours, total 10 hours

 

Lessons take place on our fleet of Shark sailboats.

The Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club has a rich history of competitive keelboat racing, as it is home to some of the best skippers and race crews in the Lake St. Louis area who have distinguished themselves at home and abroad. Leveraging their experience and that of our Sail Canada instructors, we’re proud to announce the INTRODUCTION TO KEELBOAT RACING course.

The course consists of 17 hours of instruction, the majority of which are spent on the water, practicing on a mix of racecourses with our fleet of identical Club Sharks. A coach will accompany students on each boat, with the instructor overseeing the course from a separate coach boat.

 

INTRODUCTION TO KEELBOAT RACING is focuses on strategy, starts, tactics and finishes, and is designed for both skippers and crew.

 

Only one session will be offered this year: IKR-1 (Evening and weekend session) from August 4 to 6, 2023

Friday         6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Saturday    9:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Sunday       9:30 AM to 3:30 PM

 

The cost of the course is $450 + tax, and includes a copy Getting Started in Sailboat Racing, a must-have for any racer that will continue to further your knowledge about racing after the course is over.
